Education Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2 years of post-secondary training in CAD, machining, or a related field preferred
- Equivalent experience operating CNC lathes and cylindrical grinders may be considered
Experience Requirements
- Experience with CNC machining, tooling, or precision manufacturing
- Ability to read engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and CNC programming preferred
- Experience using precision measuring instruments, hand tools, and power tools
- Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
Job Duties
- Manufacture and maintain tooling components and mandrels for pilger machine operations
- Set up and operate CNC lathes, cylindrical grinders, vertical mills, thread grinders, and other machining equipment
- Utilize CAD/CAM software to support tooling design and production processes
- Select and install tooling, fixtures, and machine settings for production runs
- Sharpen drills, straighten mandrels, and perform polishing and finishing operations
- Inspect finished components to ensure compliance with quality standards and engineering specifications
- Maintain accurate production records and tooling documentation
- Perform routine equipment maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, and adjustments
- Keep the tooling area, equipment, and workspaces organized and clean
- Follow established safety procedures and support quality systems including ISO and AS standards
- Apply continuous improvement and lean manufacturing practices to reduce defects and improve efficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with CNC mills, lathes, machining centers, or multi-axis equipment is preferred.
- Experience editing CNC programs, setting tooling offsets, and performing machine setups is beneficial.
- Familiarity with G-code, CAD/CAM software, Haas, Mazak, Okuma, Fanuc, or similar CNC controls is considered an asset.
- Individuals who demonstrate strong troubleshooting abilities, continuous learning, and commitment to precision manufacturing are well positioned for success as a CNC Machinist.
Physical Capabilities
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work around machining equipment throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift materials, tooling, and components weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity to safely operate CNC machinery and precision measuring equipment.
- Ability to work safely around moving machinery while following established safety procedures.
