Summary:
The main function of a logistics specialist is to coordinate and expedite the flow of work and materials within or between departments of an establishment according to the production schedule. A typical logistics specialist is responsible for reviewing and distributing production, work, and shipment schedules and compiling reports on inventory levels, cost, etc.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a liaison between 3PL, 4PL, carriers, and client entities.
- Analyze daily, weekly, and monthly reports and KPIs to ensure operational excellence.
- Produce and distribute department reports to various groups and stakeholders within the supply chain network.
- Provide shipment status to various business units within the company.
- Download and analyze shipping data from TMS and WMS to identify in-transit status.
- Confirm deliveries (IOD) to TMS.
- Upload documents (POD) to TMS and NERP.
- Maintain daily communication with 3PL, 4PL, and carriers to ensure on-time delivery.
- Identify trends and issues that can adversely affect on-time IOD/POD collection.
- In-depth understanding of the logistics industry’s standards and best practices.
- Attention to detail and ability to identify process improvements and streamline existing processes.
- Adaptability in a fast-paced environment with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple time-sensitive tasks.
- Actively support team projects and effectively communicate with team members.
- Review and approve documents, materials and products, and monitor work processes to assess completeness, accuracy and conformance to standards and specifications.
- Review and approve documents such as production schedules, work orders, and staffing tables to determine personnel and materials requirements, and material priorities.
- Confer with department supervisors and other personnel to assess progress and discuss needed changes.
- Revise production schedule when required, due to design changes, labor or material shortages, or other interruptions.
- Distribute production schedules and work orders to departments.
- Confer with establishment personnel, vendors, and customers to coordinate production and shipping activities and resolve complaints or eliminate delays.
Requirements:
- B.A. or B.S. with at least 5 to 7 years of relevant logistics experience.
- Demonstrate ability to analyze information to identify, escalate, and make recommendations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including written, verbal, and active listening.
- Proficient Excel skills (extract data, VLOOKUP, advanced formulas, pivot tables, etc.).
- System knowledge of SAP and TMS preferred.
- Strong time management skills, ability to multitask, prioritize, and actively follow up.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and ability to learn.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, detail-oriented, and analytical skills.
- Ability to support weekend, holidays, and overtime requirements as needed.
- Ability to travel as needed.
Preferred Skills:
- Verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong ability to analyze costs related to manufacturing, labor, and materials.
- Strong ability to accurately document and record customer/client information.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback.
- Strong knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to shipping and production.
- Previous experience with computer applications, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
