Outside Sales Representative Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent technical sales and industrial manufacturing experience may be considered.
Outside Sales Representative Job Duties
  • Develop new business through prospecting, networking, cold calling, and relationship building.
  • Manage and grow an assigned sales territory throughout North America.
  • Travel to manufacturing facilities and customer sites to identify sales opportunities.
  • Evaluate production equipment and manufacturing processes to recommend custom tooling solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineers, production managers, and tooling teams to gather project specifications and requirements.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Prepare and manage customer quotations while coordinating with internal engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Build and maintain long-term customer relationships through responsive service and technical sales support.
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing accounts and increase territory revenue.
  • Maintain consistent customer follow-up and manage sales activities independently.

Outside Sales Representative Experience Requirements
  • 3+ years of successful outside B2B sales experience in industrial manufacturing, machine tooling, metalworking, capital equipment, or a related industry.
  • Experience selling technical products, tooling, equipment, or manufacturing solutions.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Experience working with automotive, aerospace, fastener, metal forming, or industrial manufacturing customers is strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to prospect, develop new business, and manage long-term customer relationships.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage a large geographic territory with minimal supervision.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 90% throughout North America by car and air.
  • Must reside in Rhode Island, Michigan, or California with convenient access to a major airport.

Outside Sales Representative Physical Capabilities
  • Ability to travel approximately 90% throughout North America by car and air.
  • Ability to drive for extended periods and navigate manufacturing and customer facilities.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during facility tours, customer visits, and industry events.
  • Ability to safely work in industrial and manufacturing environments while following site-specific safety and PPE requirements.
  • Ability to carry a laptop, sales materials, and other business equipment while traveling.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible travel schedule based on customer and business needs.
