Now Hiring Small Engine Mechanic
Picayune, MS
Pay Rate: $12.00 per hour
Shift: Monday – Friday – rotating Saturdays | 7 AM – 5 PM

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical school, vocational training, apprenticeship experience, or industrial maintenance education is preferred.

Experience Requirements
  • Small engine repair and maintenance experience preferred
  • Customer service experience preferred
  • Building materials, lumber yard, or construction experience preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude required
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently
Job Duties
  • Diagnose and repair small engines, mowers, and related equipment
  • Perform maintenance including tune-ups, oil changes, belt replacement, blade replacement, and ignition repairs
  • Repair and replace starters, pulleys, solenoids, filters, and other engine components
  • Log incoming equipment and assist with repair tracking
  • Assist customers with questions regarding equipment and building supply products
  • Load and unload customer purchases and returns
  • Stock and restock inventory as needed
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop and yard
  • Perform general yard maintenance including sweeping, weed eating, and cleanup
  • Support daily building supply yard operations

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work in varied positions throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift tools, replacement parts, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity to safely operate tools, perform repairs, and handle mechanical components.
  • Ability to work safely around moving machinery, elevated surfaces, confined areas, and industrial equipment while wearing required personal protective equipment.

What You Will Do

As a Small Engine Mechanic you will inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair production machinery, mechanical systems, and facility equipment. You will perform preventative maintenance, replace worn components, make mechanical adjustments, document completed work, identify equipment concerns, and collaborate with production and maintenance teams to reduce downtime while supporting safe, reliable operations.

The Small Engine Mechanic plays an important role in maintaining the machinery and mechanical systems required for dependable daily operations. This position requires mechanical expertise, adaptability, and the ability to respond effectively when equipment problems occur.

Successful Small Engine Mechanic candidates understand mechanical repair, preventative maintenance, equipment alignment, and safe tool use while helping extend equipment life and improve operational performance. Consistent workmanship contributes directly to production reliability.
