CNC Operator Requirements: What It Takes to Get on the Floor

• High school diploma or GED required
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
• Basic computer skills with the ability to access and update manufacturing databases/software
• Strong mathematical skills, including fractions, decimals, ratios, and percentages
• Ability to solve practical machining problems and interpret written, oral, and diagram-based instructions
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds regularly

What You’ll Be Doing Every Shift

• Fire up the CNC and keep it cutting — no babysitting, just skill and focus.
• Read prints, check measurements, and make sure every part passes inspection.
• Tweak settings, change tools, and keep production rolling.
• Keep your station clean, safe, and running smoothly.
