Job Duties

  • Develop, review, and optimize welding procedures and weld process specifications to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Design and modify 2D/3D CAD models, welded components, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to improve product performance, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
  • Perform weld inspections, quality audits, and documentation management utilizing CWI expertise.
  • Troubleshoot welding defects, distortion, and production challenges while implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support and maintain robotic and automated welding systems, including production welders and cobots.
  • Lead root cause investigations, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and promote a culture of safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field required; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
  • Active Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) certification required.
  • Additional training in welding processes, fabrication methods, CAD design, or automated welding systems is highly valued.

Experience Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Welding Engineer, Welding Inspector, Manufacturing Engineer, or Quality Engineer within heavy manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial production environments.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS, ASME, and applicable welding codes, standards, and quality requirements.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software for 2D and 3D modeling and engineering drawings.
  • Experience with robotic welding systems, cobots, process automation, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives preferred.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, welding symbols, and technical specifications.

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to work in both an office environment and a manufacturing facility with frequent movement between production and engineering areas.
  • Comfortable working in a noisy, non-climate-controlled industrial environment with concrete flooring.
  • Capable of standing, walking, and conducting weld inspections on the production floor for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to customer sites, suppliers, or project locations as needed.

What You Will Do

As a Weld Engineer you will prepare materials, set up welding equipment, perform MIG welding operations, inspect completed welds, read blueprints, verify measurements, and help fabricate metal components according to engineering specifications. You will maintain welding equipment, follow quality standards, and support safe, efficient manufacturing operations while producing consistent, high-quality work.

The Weld Engineer manufactures welded metal products through skilled MIG welding, fabrication, and quality inspection practices. This role requires technical knowledge, strong work habits, and attention to detail while supporting manufacturing operations.
